Press Release

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
January 1, 2010

Hamilton ON – On February 5, 2010 the new community theatre company on the block, Black Box Fire will open its largest show to date, Pride and Prejudice. Originally adapted for the Stratford stage by Christina Calvit, this romantic Jane Austen classic will run at Hamilton Theatre Inc.’s Studio Theatre from February 5th to 13th.

Pride and Prejudice LogoOne of the most famous love stories of all time, Pride and Prejudice centers around the Bennet family, a respectable family with little excess money and the arduous task of five daughters to marry off. When wealthy new gentlemen arrive in town, Mr. Bingley and Mr. Darcy, their scheming mother tries her best at match-making. The eldest daughter is blessed with beauty while the cleverest one, Elizabeth, is quick-witted and speaks her mind whether it pleases others or not. A favourite novel of young and old alike, you are left asking: Will the proud Darcy and prejudiced Elizabeth ever get together?

Stephanie Yantsis returns to the director’s seat, after a successful year of acting endeavours including Pam in Closing the Door with Hammer Entertainment, Poole in Jekyll & Hyde with Hamilton Theatre Inc. and starring in Black Box Fire’s one-woman show Pyg. This classic is full of local actors including Andrew Huisman, Lauren Repei, Kim Jonasson and A.J. Haygarth.

Black Box Fire is excited for its third season, following a jam-packed second season which included Dead Certain, The Trial of Ebenezer Scrooge, It’s Tough to Be Somebody, Pyg, Down the Road and the Emerging Artists Series, a three-week theatre festival that showcased the talents of young people in the Hamilton community.

"Black Box Fire continues to impress. Their shows are well-styled and they have an edge without being weird.” – Katie Penrose, VIEW magazine
